Wooden Chinese Buddha in tree trunk

Gautama Buddha achieved enlightenment through meditation beneath a Ficus religiosa tree. According to Buddhist scriptures, the Buddha remained seated in meditation for seven weeks, or 49 days, at this location. After his enlightenment, a shrine known as the Animisalocana cetiya was built at the spot where he sat.
